Christmas.

I know I am a couple days late, but MERRY CHRISTMAS! I hope everybody had a wonderful day! I kicked off my Christmas weekend with a 20 mile run.  It was long, it was cold, and I was more than happy to get that run over with.  As much as I was NOT enjoying my run, I continued to remind myself to be grateful to have legs that allow me to run.  I’m pretty sure I repeated “I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me” 573 times.  It’s amazing how important mental strength is!  Anyways, in Japan, Christmas is typically celebrated with a Christmas cake and Kentucky Fried Chicken! I didn’t get KFC, but I was surprised with this beauty:

fullsizerender-28I’ll be posting about some of my favorite cold running gear soon, but in the meantime, here are some songs to help you get through the last week of 2016!

snow.

Sunday morning I woke up to this:
snow2The sermon on Sunday was all about heaven.  The pastor talked about how our life, here on earth, is temporary.  One of the things that came to mind was how much I dislike speed work.  It’s hard. It’s exhausting. It’s temporary. My brother was/is a great athlete.  We used to have walkathons at school, and I remember back when I was in middle school, I asked him how he ran so fast for so long.  He said he just thought to himself that after he was done with the run, he would be able to relax for the rest of the day.  That stuck with me, because I think about it every single time during my run.  On a side note, I found a bunch of these (scarves, gloves, and hats) along the trail on Saturday morning, and it made me grateful to know that there are a bunch of good people out there.
fullsizerender-26Anyways, this past week was an extremely exhausting one.  I think the lack of sleep from the prior week caught up to me. So, nothing really new here, BUT I am currently on a hunt for this:
fullsizerender-27This week’s running:
Monday: 2.2 miles
Tuesday: 6.1 miles
Wednesday: Rest
Thursday: 4 miles
Friday: 12.2 miles
Saturday: 5 miles
Sunday: Rest
Total:29.5 miles

I’ll be putting up Christmas decorations this week, so I am really looking forward to that!  Whether it’s a 3 day, 4 day, or 5 day work week for you,  Happy (early) Thanksgiving!
